Public Safety serves as a critical support function to the MCTC community. Public Safety
Officers on campus are authorized to take appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. MCTC Public Safety Officers are employed by the college and are trained on an annual basis to effectively respond and resolve incidents on campus in a positive manner. There may be occasions where Public Safety Officers response and incident resolution may be augmented by local police, fire, and EMS response units. Requesting Emergency Support Services Contact the Public Safety Department at the emergency number (612-659-6900 or ext. 6900) for assistance with: • Fires • Crimes in progress • Crisis situations • Medical emergencies Requesting Non-Emergency Support Services Contact the Public Safety Department at the non-emergency number (612-659-6910 or ext. 6910) for assistance with: • Escort services • Basic first aid • Incident reports • Unlocking doors What to do when you observe criminal or suspicious activity on campus If you observe a crime in progress or behavior that you suspect is criminal, immediately notify MCTC Public Safety at 612-659-6900 or ext. 6900. Report as much information as possible including what the person(s) is/are doing; the location; physical and clothing description of those involved; if weapons are involved and if so, what type; vehicle description and license plate number if appropriate; direction of travel when last seen, etc. Do not approach or attempt to apprehend the person(s) involved. Campus Public Safety and/or Minneapolis Police Officers will respond to the situation, take appropriate actions and do the follow-up investigation.
